Description
Jonson (Ben) The Works, first complete collected edition, title with 4 woodcut ornamental blocks, lacking portrait frontispiece, small hole to a couple of ff., ink stain to R4, paper flaw to 3S3 slightly affecting rules at headline, sig. 3C (2ff.) browned as in most copies and 2Z2-3 foxed, also as usual, some other occasional foxing and light water-staining, 19th century calf, gilt, rebacked, [Pforzheimer 561; Wing J1006], folio, Printed by Thomas Hodgkin, for H. Herringman [&c], 1692.*** The first one-volume edition and the last of the folio editions, which includes The New Inne for the first time. According to Pforzheimer, the discolouration of 3C and the foxing to 2Z2-3 is likely due to the different (and probably inferior) paper used for those two particular sheets.
