Description
Originally designed by Leo Fender in the early sixties as a short scale student guitar called the Music Master, it was later discontinued but after popular demand by Fender fans it was later re-introduced as the duo-sonic. In 1974 Clive John was a musician managed by Barrie Marshall, the owner of Marshall Arts P.A. Company. Clive asked Barrie who was leaving for the U.S. if he could find either model whilst he was there. Whilst in New York Barrie asked his old friend Mal Evans if he knew where he could find one. Mal was John Lennon’s Personal assistant and Lennon was currently away after fleeing to the West coast after being escorted from a Smothers Brothers concert for drunken heckling. Mal told Barrie that there were a number of guitars in the apartment and as luck would have it, one of them was a Duo-Sonic (serial number L22604)that had come from Manny’s Music store, and Mal gave it to Barrie to give to Clive John, which he duly did. The guitar has been extensively used by Clive john since then and shows a lot of wear. With a letter confirming these events written prior to his death by the late Clive John also accompanied by a letter from Mrs John, Clive’s Widow.
