Description
A Pennsylvania Chippendale Inlaid Walnut Blanket Chest, Chester or Lancaster County, Dated 1781. The strap hinged rectangular top with applied molded edge enclosing a dovetail-constructed box with a left covered till with two small concealed drawers beneath, with waist molding over three drawers, raised on tall dovetailed bracket feet. The facade with two inlaid astragal panels to either side of the escutcheon, inscribed 'I.H.G' and '1781'. Tulip poplar and pine secondary woods.

Provenance: Property from the Collection of C. Thomas Attix Jr., East Windsor, New Jersey.
Condition
Structurally sound. Retaining an old surface. Brass hardware appears to be original, build-up of grim and polish residue around brass pulls and escutcheons. Center drawer lacking lockplate. No key to right drawer. The blanket box compartment with iron key. General marks, wear, abrasions, surface scratches and small losses commensurate with age and use.
