Description
The Liberty Head $5 gold coin, commonly referred to as the Half Eagle, was minted by the United States from 1839 to 1908. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, it showcases a left-facing bust of Lady Liberty adorned with a coronet inscribed with the word "LIBERTY." On the reverse side, an eagle with outstretched wings is depicted, encircled by a wreath and inscriptions indicating its denomination and the nation of origin. This particular piece is dated 1897 and was minted in Philadelphia. Crafted on a 90% pure gold planchet, sold ungraded. Its actual gold weight is .2418 troy ounces.
