The liquidation of a book dealerÂ’s private collection continues with some stunning items. First and foremost is an extremely scarce and decorative volume published just after the end of the 17th century. This most unusual book, The GentlemenÂ’s Recreation, is a wonderfully illustrated compendium of knowledge useful for English royalty and men of means. A virtual cornucopia of information, it is three volumes in one. The book covers Horsemanship, Hawking, Hunting, Fowling, Fishing, Agriculture, the Sciences, Music, History, Art, you name it. What makes it even more special are the 80 full-page, fine engravings by Richard Blome. Another very special item is a lovely and scarce true first edition of The Little Prince. This is one of the most popular books ever published, and not always found in such nice condition. Included in the items being offered are a group of very desirable 100-year-old books offered for sale to passengers when they were travelling on the Rio Grande or Lackawanna Railroads in the old West. A program from the 1932 Cleveland Air Races is another of the unusual items in this sale, along with quite a unique item, a large promotional booklet from Vandergrift, the first community in America to be completely built before homes were offered for sale to potential customers. Rounding out the sale is a scarce signed copy of The Works of Dwight James Baum. Baum was a cousin to Frank Baum, author of The Wizard of Oz books, and was an American architect who designed a number of buildings now on the National Register of Historic Places.
