OTSA 62 DAY 1 MICHAEL O'DONNELL PART 2

OTSA 62 The Michael O'Donnell Collection Part 2 - April 16th, 17th & 18th, 2021. Mike started his Military Toy Collection in 1956-57 when he was 12 year old. He can remember going to Kip’s Toyland at the Farmers Market, Los Angeles, CA. (still Open), where he found his first Britain’s Set #1307, the Sixteenth Century Knights. As often happens, his collection of Britain’s and Dinky Toys went into storage when he went off to the US Navy in September 1962. Upon returning in late 1966 he focused on College, raising a family, and building a Oral Radiology Practice with 6 locations in San Diego, CA. over the next 40 Years. During his early years in business, he come across his old collection, but didn’t have time to do much with it. Then in the Mid 1980’s, he found a book by James Opie called Britain’s Toy Soldiers,1893-1932, that would change everything! Shortly thereafter, he heard of the Dr. Wehr Toy Soldier Auction at Butterfield & Butterfield Auction House, in San Francisco, CA. At this auction he met Ed Ruby, who would influence his future collecting for the next 34 years. In the 1980’s and 90’s he and Ed would travel to England and attend the Phillips Toy Soldiers Auctions. They would often buy lots together and then divide them up depending on who already had the sets. When Ed sold his extensive Britain’s Collection, Mike was there to acquire some of the fine examples you will find in this auction. Based on the fact that you can’t take anything with you, Mike’s wife Cheryl, one day looked at him and said, if you leave me with this collection I will be forced to sell it for 25 cents a piece! It is now time to march the troops off to a new home. He would like to thank G. Scott Morlan, K. Warren Mitchell, Bob Fisher, Craig McClain (Old Toy Soldier Home) and Ray Haradin, Old Toy Soldier Auctions, who helped make this wonderful collection possible. Mike's collection is offered on Day 2 of this sale, April 17th, 2021.
