Original 19th Century Photographs of Japan

During the 19th century European photographers dominated the photographic business in Japan. With the close of the Bakamatsu era these men saw the end of a feudal system in Japan and photographed the rapidly disappearing scenes of the old way of life. Many of the photographs in this auction represent their work as well as that of the Japanese photographers that were trained by the Europeans in this new art form.
