Chinese and Himalayan Works of Art
The September 23rd sale of Chinese and Himalayan Works of Art comprises a selection of imperial porcelains, jade, paintings, and furniture from important private collections throughout the United States. Monochrome porcelains from the collection of Margaret S. Tom and Donald & Judith Wallace begin the sale, followed by a Magnificent Qianlong mark and period Tianqiuping vase (lot 129). From the estate of Hizaso Nagatani comes an important jadeite necklace (lot 62). Paintings include an early work in the style of Huizong, a pair of ancestor portraits of Manchu royalty, and a painting by Qi Baishi from the collection of Isabel Chang, inherited from Yu Hung-Chun. Examples of huanghuali furniture, like those offered in this sale, are illustrated in profusely illustrated books, corresponding to categories throughout the sale, including porcelain, painting, metalwork and ornament.
