Craftsman Auctions - David Rago/Jerry Cohen

The Rago Arts & Auction Center is pleased to present its Craftsman Auction Weekend September 17 and 18, 2005, featuring a wide range of art pottery, art glass, prints and paintings, lighting and furniture from the American Arts & Crafts movement. The auction will feature an extraordinary collection of Marie Zimmermann metal and wood work, including a beautifully carved and painted jewelry box, and Zimmermann's own work bench. A fantastic collection of extremely rare Roycroft artifacts from the Estate of Miriam Hubbard Roelofs, Elbert and Alice Hubbard's daughter, will also be offered. This collection includes extremely rare Dard Hunter lamps and furniture from the Roycroft Inn, and Hubbard's private collection. Great pieces of art pottery include excellent examples of Rookwood, Grueby, John Bennett, and Newcomb College, as well as a handwritten letter and poem from George Ohr. A tile session features rare works by Hartford Faience, Rookwood, Marblehead and Grueby. Glass highlights include several pieces of Tiffany, Daum, and Loetz. Lighting ranges from Gustav Stickley to Lilian Palmer, Dirk van Erp, Roycroft and Heintz. Artwork is well represented with color woodcuts by Gustave Baumann, Arthur Wesley Dow, and Everett Bryant. Rare and excellent pieces of furniture include an early Gustav Stickley server and even-arm crib settle, a Roycroft desk and Ali Baba bench, and a complete Limbert original dining room set.
