Vernacular & Outsider Art Online Auction

Neal Auction is pleased to present its second annual dedicated Vernacular & Outsider Art Auction. This sale brings together a wide range of art by Self-Taught, Outsider and Visionary artists, many of them from the American South, who created or continue to create bodies of work beyond the boundaries of the traditional art world. These artists transcend genres through vernacular visual expressions uniquely tied to their state of mind, culture and environment. The items offered in this sale are each part of original bodies of work inspired by the artists' personal and emotional experiences, and yet they also convey universal themes of life with universal appeal. While many of the artists included in the auction have ties to Louisiana and the South, their common connection is one of form, vivid palette and narrative. From Clementine Hunter's depictions of life on Melrose Plantation to Jimmy Lee Sudduth's imaginative figures to rare works delivering a social commentary on life, the artwork captivates through its unconventional media, subject matter and creative expression.
