The Saturday auction opens with a collection of fine sterling silver from an important local estate featuring a sumptuous mixed metal punch bowl by Gorham with a matching ladle. Having a beautiful spot-hammered texture and grape bunch handles, the 19th century bowl and ladle are a true testament to Gorham craftsmanship. Additionally by Gorham, an 1896 loving cup engraved with the names notable Detroiters, including Warren, Newberry, Moran, and Hendrie. Other significant decorative arts are a Royal Vienna presentation urn on stand with a portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph, a gift from the emperor himself to a U.S. Rear Admiral; Lalique "Courges" vase in amber and a Steuben "Cluthra" vase of bright green; Liverpool creamware jug for the American market; Dresden porcelain vases and covered urns; French porcelain and bronze twelve-light chandelier; a set of two Italian carved gesso and wood figural tiebacks; a Stickley Brothers "Quaint" sideboard; oil paintings, watercolors and drawings by Lucien Moretti, Joseph Scheuerle, Glenn Cooper Henshaw, Seguino, and others, as well as exhibition posters for Marc Chagall and Alexander Calder; Steuben stemware; Japanese ivory netsuke; a collection of modern art books from a local collector; a variety of fine jewelry and oriental rugs from semi antique to modern.
