Stewart, and William M. Reid. Highlights from the late 18th century arms include a rare American Light Horse cavalry sabre and an unsigned Jeremiah Snow cavalry sabre, and 1794 and 1798 Contract muskets. The collection is especially strong in 1797 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Contract muskets and features eight examples including one regimentally marked piece. War of 1812-era arms are well represented with a selection of U.S. Model 1795, 1808, and other contract muskets, several of which have associations with state militias including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Swords from the same period include sabres by Nathan Starr among others. The progression of American military arms is represented by fine examples of federal and contract arms including the Models 1816, 1822, and 1822/28. A group of arms from the second quarter of the 19th century and Civil War round out the sale with a selection of U.S. Model 1833 Dragoon sabres including a fine enlisted man's example for the National Lancers, and fine Civil War era swords.
