For many years this seller amassed a collection of quality vintage books by acquiring choice items from personal collections, auctions, estate sales and private libraries. He is now selling most of his collection in this and subsequent sales. Featured is the scarce 2-volume 1st edition of Teddy Roosevelt’s “Life Histories of African Game Animals,” a much sought-after high point of Rooseveltiana. Roosevelt’s scarce 1893 1st edition of “The Wilderness Hunter” is also being offered. Other desirable western-themed books in this sale include, among other things, a rare 1882 1st edition of Jay Donald’s “Outlaws of the Border,” published shortly after Jesse James’ murder, and the sought-after enlarged 2nd edition of “The Gun and its Development,” (c1884). Of particular interest are four original, hand-written Ohio diaries from the 1860s, including one by a part-time canal boat operator and one by a woman living in the Western Reserve writing through the years 1863-1865 about her friends in the war and other things. A 1955 Playboy magazine, a May/June “Teen Talk” featuring The Beatles at the beginning of their meteoric rise and a 1959 magazine featuring Bridget Bardot highlight over two dozen retro publications from the 1940s-1960s. Two very scarce 1821 Ohio land grants signed by President James Monroe are being offered. One of the more esoteric items is Jervis Cutler’s extremely scarce 1812 1st edition on the topography of Ohio, Indiana and the Louisiana Territory which gives the first descriptions and scientific names of seven species of American mammals. Enjoy this sale of very interesting and collectible antiquarian books.
