Fine Black and White Photographica 51
Fine Black and White Photographica #51 presents acknowledgement to Alexander Gardner, the astoundingly gifted and prolific photographer (and one-time assistant to Matthew Brady. Considered the pioneer of photojournalism). Alexander Gardner (October 17, 1821 ? December 10, 1882) was a Scottish photographer who immigrated to the United States in 1856, where he began to work full-time in the photographic profession. He is best known for his photographs of the American Civil War, U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, and of the conspirators and the execution of the participants in the Lincoln assassination plot. In fact, this auction includes Gardner's coverage of said execution of conspirators along with Super-Rare images of Lincoln's inauguration, burial procession and classic portraits. Not only is the U.S. Civil War presented here, but also WWI and WWII. And beyond certain generic portraits and landscapes, bidders will find a series of European works from Milan, Italy.. plus scarcely observed Native Americana by virtue of Klickitat, Shoshoni, Ecuadorian and Alaskan Potlatch tribal ancestors in this, our Fifty-First outing.
