Naturalism in the Time of Audubon

This exciting sale will include a large selection of aquatints from Audubon?s first edition double-elephant folio of Birds of America and lithographs from his first edition Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America. Among the works available for purchase are such iconic prints as Plate 26: Carolina Parrot and Plate 211: Great Blue Heron from Birds of America, and Plate 21: Grey Fox from the Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America. In addition to these very fine prints, we will also be offering a selection of rare books relevant to Audubon?s work and interest in natural history, as well as two exceptional historical maps. Highlights from this section of the auction include Pierre-Joseph Redouté?s Choix de Plus Belles Fleurs and a rare seventeenth-century panorama of Antwerp. Arader Galleries is also pleased to offer a stunning selection of ten of Pierre-Joseph Redouté?s natural history watercolors. Finally, Guernsey?s will offer for sale a variety of twentieth-century animal bronzes, nineteenth-century ship models, and natural history photographs by Roger Tory Peterson.
