Robert Stokes, a Princeton, New Jersey businessman, bought from top dealers ? Israel Sack, Louis Richmond, Wilford Lawshe ? as well as private individuals in the 1920s and 1930s. His daughter-in-law, Marie Louise Reeder Stokes, added a number of pieces to the collection, some descended through Reeder family, others acquired from market sources.
