Antique & Modern Jewellery

September is always a refreshing and exciting time of year. For the next month, we will be able to enjoy the last lingering moments of summer whilst at the same time anticipating the fresh starts and new trends that autumn will bring. Fittingly, our September auction of Antique & Modern Jewellery is a breath of fresh air for the sale room. It features an excellent array of high quality and unusual pieces, many of which are rarely seen at auction. The highlight of this month?s sale is undoubtedly our cover lot, a beautiful mid-20th century tiara, with an estimated diamond weight of 15 to 17cts (lot 341). It is relatively rare to find a tiara of this age and quality because so many of them have been dismantled to create smaller pieces of jewellery. This piece also converts to a necklace, making it versatile and wearable for the contemporary buyer. It will be sold complete with its original box, which has allowed us to identify that this tiara was originally purchased from the prestigious Burlington Arcade near Bond Street. The diamond ring featured on our back cover exemplifies the quality of this sale (lot 141). This exquisite diamond single-stone ring of 3.03cts, with I colour and SI2 clarity grades, is truly dazzling and catches light beautifully. It would be the ideal gift to mark an engagement or special occasion. Our auction is also a throwback to the 1970s, with a wonderful selection of striking modernist pieces that reflect the trends seen on the autumn catwalks. Clean lines and symmetrical design reign supreme; a Lapponia 18ct gold emerald matrix and diamond pendant (lot 277), and a 1970s tribal mask pendant and chain (lot 440) are among the most striking lots. This auction also presents an unusually diverse selection of modern designer jewellery, from an 18ct gold charm bracelet by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. (lot 292), to a Faberge enamel egg pendant (lot 270), or a diamond cross pendant by Chimento (lot 260)
