20th Century Art & Design

20th Century Art & Design Auction held on Sunday, May 7th at The John Toomey Gallery located in Oak Park (a Chicago suburb) at 818 North Blvd. phone: 708.383.5234. This important three session sale contains over 1100 lots. The first session contains important items in Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau and Art Deco, including furniture, from Gustav Stickley, L&JG Stickley, and Limbert with highlights include an unusual massive L. & J.G. Stickley bookcase and a early Morris chair by Gustav Stickley. A large selection of American and European Ceramics such as Teco, Grueby, Rookwood, SEG, Newcomb, Marblehead, Amphora, Dalpayrat, and others. Several lamps will be offered including Tiffany, Handel, Pairpoint. Tiffany metalwork and an assortment of Tiffany glass as well as Galle, Lalique, Quezal and others. The second Session will include Fine Art and Paintings featuring several works from the prominent collection of former United States Senator William C. Benton (1900-1973). Highlights of this group are four paintings by Reginald Marsh. Other important work that will be offered by such artist as Henri Farre, Gregory Orloff, William Schwartz, Karl Behr, Fernand Leger and others. The third session consists of Mid Century-Modern by such designers as George Nelson, Edward Wormley, Gilbert Rohde, Arne Jacobsen, Paul Frankl, Nicola, Peter Hvidt, Noguchi, Gibbings and others. Several lots of Pillin ceramics will be offered as well as Sterling flatware from Gio Ponti, Elief Saarinen, and Leslie Brown. A grouping of Mid-Century lighting and other decorative items will be offered.
