Description
***Auction Highlight*** 1908-d Gold Indian Half Eagle $5 Graded ms65 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE ENTIRE AUCTION - Up for Auction is one of the Finest known surviving 1908-d $5 Indians. The Philadelphia issue was the chief beneficiary of public hoarding when Bela Lyon Pratt's Indian Head half eagle made its debut in 1908, and is readily available in most grades today. Its Denver counterpart, however, boasts a surviving population that is more in line with later issues: The date is available in grades through MS63 but becomes a major rarity at the ms64 level and nearly impossible at the Gem level. In their gold Encyclopedia, Garrett and Guth write: "In a series with condition rarities prevalent, the 1908-D half eagle has earned its place as one of the 10 rarest dates in gem grades. This satiny example boasts a bold strike and rich honey-gold luster. Close examination detects a few tiny, scattered ticks, none out of line for the grade nor unexpected for the issue. The eye appeal is far above-average. For the collector assembling a Gem-quality Indian half eagle set, the acquisition of this 1908-D is an important opportunity. I have included another ms65 for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
