Description

Book of Hours ca 1500 in Flemish Style; a Martyred Royal Female Saint seated on a flowered carpet in exquisite detail with a scene of her beheading in the architectural background; delicate borders of a bird, insects, scrolling flowers and foliage all on a peach-pink ground. in opaque paints and gold highlights. Height 9 1/4 inches (23.5 cm.) X width 7 inches (17.8 cm.). NOTE: Compare with the Book of Hours of Isabella the Catholic in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art produced around 1500 in Ghent or Bruges in Flanders for the Queen of Spain.
