Description
Attributed to Bontems, France, a large, early 20th century singing bird cage, the enclosure with domed top and hanging ring containing a blue bird on a perch, and fixed to a repousse, foliate and strap work ornamented brass base containing the movement, the bird turning its head and flicking its tail, and the tongue moving, the motions synchronous with the bird's song
Condition
dirty, cage wires with minor bends, the escutcheon at the top beneath the ring no longer conforms to the shape of the domed top, trim strip missing from left side of door, bird with minor losses to feathers, plumage with fading, lacking perch foliage, fabric on floor of cage with deterioration, repousse base with minor dents and tarnish, working, singing a bit weak, movement oily, would benefit from cleaning and sealing/ recovering bellows, key replaced
