Description
Reuge, St. Croix, Switzerland, a 20th century musical pocket watch with automata, 17 jewel rhodium plated movement with lever escapement and alarm, in a gold plated, snap back and bezel open face case, arabic numeral white dial above a polychrome landscape scene behind the automated figures, a gentleman on horseback at left, and a woman pumping a well at right, the music box activated by the alarm, and animating the scene, the woman pumping the handle, a turning disk simulating falling water, the horse lowering his head to drink, and the rider raising and lowering his left arm, serial #4146, 56mm, c1990, with lyre form key.
Condition
CASE: Very fine scratches on outer surface of case; Very fine scratches on inner surface of case; Acrylic crystal with minor scratches. DIAL: Surface with fine cracking. HANDS: Good. MOVEMENT PLATES: Good. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks) ; alarm functional; music and automata sluggish, needs service. The design of the automata is based on an early 19th century Swiss example, sometimes referred to as "The Falconer"
