Korean, Joseon dynasty, 15th-16th Century

The stoneware body of pear-form with cylindrical neck rising to a wide, flared mouth set on a vertical stembase. The body incised with stylized lotus, below a collar of lappets and segmented by pairs of lines and with multiple lines at the top of the neck, with the raised areas decorated with brushed-on white slip and the recesses showing the grey-green body, thus delineating the design. The mouth of vase is partially covered with greyish-green slip (commonly referred to as the 'Dumbung' technique)

Provenance: Constantine (Gus) Sclavos (1896-1985) owner of Glasgow Arms restaurant, Glasgow, Delaware; to his daughter Mary, who upon her passing in 2020, bequeathed the Sclavos Collection to her nephew.

Condition: A 2 1/2 in. section has been broken from the lip at one point and glued back.
