Pope John Paul II Signed German Bible, Signed At the Conclusion of His Historic Trip to Germany in 1980
A German language Bible, comprising both the Old and New Testaments, signed by Pope John Paul II (1920-2005) in Latin upon the front free endpaper as "Johannes Paulus PP II / 19. 11. 1980." Light shelf wear, otherwise in near fine condition. Of considerable length though lacking actual page numbers. 6.5" x 8.5" x 1.75." Comes with provenance from Otmar Fuchs of Namlos, Austria.
Pope John Paul II signed this Bible on November 19, 1980 on his return Lufthansa flight from Munich to Rome after the conclusion of his historic trip to Germany. The Pope dedicated the inscription to a flight attendant named Mrs. Ulrike Fuchs-Officia, who had mainly served the six Cardinals on the flight, but who had also had the opportunity to present the Bible to the Pope for signing and pose for a photograph.
Pope John Paul II led the Roman Catholic Church between 1978 and 2005.

The signed Bible is accompanied by a 1p typed letter from Otmar Fuchs, husband of the Bible dedicatee Mrs. Ulrike Fuchs-Officia, who recorded this recollection at Namlos, Austria on April 24, 2019.
