Colonial Era Commodity Based Tobacco Bond, 1747
Single page manuscript document, being a commodity based bond using Tobacco instead of currency. Signed by George Ross and Richard Hopkins, dated "October the 23 - - -1747". 7.5" x 6". Verso with witness of a payment of "Seven Hundred pounds of tobacco as interest". Strong contrasting ink, uneven edges, light pale staining. An excellent example.
"This shall oblige us the subscribers our or each of our Executors administrators or aligns to... cause to be paid the sum of twenty two hundred pound of crop tobacco clear of cask to be paid upon demand after the tenth day of September..."
