Florida Landscape Artist Katherine A. Jensen Cook. Frame measure 11 3/4" x 14 3/4", Sight 8.5" x 11.5"BIO: Katherine was born into the vast scapes, colors and textures of Tanzania, East Africa. Planted in the red soil, at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, her love for the arts germinated and grew, cultivated by the people and breathtaking physical beauty. At the heart of her artwork is found the rhythms and textures from her time in Africa and abroad. Katherine earned a B.A. in Education and music in 1980, and continued formal art education in 1992 after returning to the USA from three years in Europe. Cook has studied with generous instructors including Dr James Mahlon Rosen and Jack Jackson. Her studies include training with contemporary artists Michael Klein, Edward Jonas, Natalie Italiano, Daniel Edmonson, Michelle Dunaway, Dan Thompson, Robert Carsten, James Tennison, and Dawn Whitelaw. Katherine's love for design and beauty have opened opportunities for her to serve both as an art educator in schools and workshops as well as serving the community at large. In 1999, Katherine founded the Leesburg Center for the Arts in Central Florida. As director, Cook often served as a judge, curator, exhibit creator, liaison, art festival director, fund raiser, project coordinator, and visionary. Her work can be found in a number of private collections, and in the Gallery of the Cultural Heritage Center in Arusha, Tanzania. KitKat's commissioned works include portraiture, award winning festival posters, murals, art installations for a hospital children's wards, artwork for magazines, illustrations for books, artwork for decor design firms, color consultation for Mainstreet projects, and product design for mission projects in Africa. She is a member of the Portrait society of America and serves as the Florida Ambassador. She is also a member of the Central Florida Pastel Society, the Atlanta Portrait Society, and the Oil Painters of America. Her current work in the style of representational realism, is in keeping with her love for humanity, nature, the subjects of her paintings and the classical disciplines of art.
