Footnote: Literature: Karlin, E.Z. Jewelry & Metalwork in the Arts & Crafts Tradition, p.97 for a similar enamel plaque brooch by Varley in a pierced silver mount. Note: Fleetwood Varley (1863-1942) worked at The Guild of Handicraft from 1899 and was a renowned artist and gifted enameller. He was a friend of C. R. Ashbee and collaborated on finely painted enamel works mounted in silver at Chipping Camden.
