Description
Monumental Native American Huichol Yarn Painting. c.1940 by Cipriano Rios Medina. Yarn set in beeswax on board. Framed. Back inscribed in Spanish, basic translation: "This god that was Christian but in exchange of everything, this god was formed into the Sun god (Tao Jreeeko). He was Christian when we threw him in the fire and there he lost his name Taó. From this guiajalote now they will celebrate a cultural fiesta. In the beginning they took their (mandos la nianda?) and the arrows. (jicaros plums?) Initially they did it to fulfill their promises." Size: 47'' x 95'', 119 x 241 cm (image); 50.5'' x 98.5'', 128 x 250 cm (frame).
