Description
This is an item I have only seen one other of ever – it’s a pitcher with a cooling cylinder fused on the interior for ice. The other one I saw was also a piece of Hawkes, but in a pattern not nearly as nice. This one is cut in Hawkes older, more desirable Aberdeen with clear tusks.Huge hobstars go around the upper bout of the pitcher and are separated on the top by long fans. The lower portion features a split vesica of strawberry-diamond cutting. On either side of that is a deeply cut clear tusk – one of the hardest to cut motifs of the period. The spout is fluted and notched and the handle is triple notched. Also on the thumb rest of the handle, there is a notch framing it – usually a sign of early, Brilliant Period glass.(2228)
Condition
The pitcher is in perfect condition and measures a very large 9 1/2″ tall and 5 1/2″ wide. It’s very heavy and large and cut on a gorgeous, wood-wheel polished blank.
