Native American, Southern United States, Oklahoma, Mississippian, ca. 700 to 1200 CE. A fantastic collection of 52 stone arrowheads discovered near the famous Spiro Mound. These arrowheads are each hand-knapped and showcase a variety of different forms and styles, with different tangs and peripheral widths, some being straight, others triangular, and some with fins or notched necks. Creating the serrated edges on such a small arrowhead took great skill and patience! The process for shaping these points involved hitting a harder stone against the surface to flake or knap these arrowheads into the desired form. Their petite size indicates these pieces may have had ritualistic and ceremonial use, rather than utilitarian. The stones themselves present a nice array of opaque, matte, and semi translucent chert and obsidian stones. Size of largest arrowhead: 1.56" L x .5" W (4 cm x 1.3 cm); smallest: .5" L x .25" W (1.3 cm x 0.6 cm); size of case: 12.25" L x 8.25" W x 1" H (31.1 cm x 21 cm x 2.5 cm)
