Description
***Auction Highlight*** 1922 Grant w/Star Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67 By SEGS. This is One of the Keys to the Entire Silver Commemorative series. Less than 5% of the Grant Commemoratives were made with the Star Variety. The Grant Halves are Notoriously Difficult to Grade, partly because Raised Die Lines on the Obverse Look at First Glance like Hairlines or Scratches. Points to Check for Wear include Grant’s Cheek and the Hair Above His Ear. The Reverse’s Dense Design tends to Mask Imperfections and Wear, but Light Friction Often can be Detected in the Treetops. 1922 Grant w/Star Half Dollar ms67 SEGS. This is a simply beautiful example of one of the scarcer, more challenging issues in the classic commemorative series. Vibrantly lustrous with an exquisite satin texture, the surfaces display some pale silver iridescence. Boldly impressed throughout and virtually pristine. The Grant Memorial half dollars and gold dollars of 1922 were issued to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the Civil War hero and former president, Ulysses S. Grant. The basic designs of the two denominations are identical. Small quantities of both the half dollar and gold dollar incorporated a five-pointed star as part of the design in the right obverse field. This feature has no known significance and may have been included on some of the coins to create a distinct type that would require contemporary collectors to purchase multiple examples. Whatever its original purpose, if any, the star today serves to denote the scarcer half dollar and gold dollar variants of the Grant Memorial commemorative coins. Scarce in MS-65 and rare any finer, this exquisite Superb Gem ranks among the highest graded and is certainly among the finest known for the type. A delight to behold and destined for inclusion in a world-class collection of commemorative coins. Tied for 2nd Finest Known. We have included another Grant No star in ms67 for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
