A detailed hand embroidered silk square with intricate floral designs in pastel colors of red and blue. A pale green silk background has been embroidered in satin stitch and forbidden stitch with lotus, prunus, peony, melon, and chrysanthemum designs. It is framed with a black brocade border and a larger black brocade frame. The square has a loose weave pale brown backing and a narrow blue patterned silk edge. There is a black three-character mark, as well as a red stamped cartouche stamped on the back. MEASUREMENTS 14 ¼” wide x 11 ½” tall. Weighs 1.6 oz (40 g) CONDITION There are no tears or loose threads. Both sides have some soiling and there is a small loss on the narrow inner brocade border. There is what looks like a water stain on the one edge and small stain dots throughout. They don’t distract. It has a nice entire look. The square may have been sleeve cuffs because the panel is stitched together down the center. The two pieces are mirror images. A lovely well thought out and executed silk embroidery.
