DESCRIPTION: Levoy Exil (Haiti, 1944) Original Acrylic Painting on canvas. Levoy Exil, is a master Haitian artist and painter; he is one of the main contributors to the Saint Soleil art movement. Exil paintings are mystical and abstract and often depict Haitian Vodou Loas, suns and stars, birds, and Marassas. The artist seeks inspiration from his dreams and reference to Vodou Loas. He believes in his past lives and is very much intrigued by the story of Atlantis; the memory of the Arrawak Indians lives on more vividly in his feelings than in those of his African ancestors. He uses the Pointillism technique of applying small, distinct dots in a pattern to reveal the ultimate image. Unframed. Unstretched canvas. Signed "Leroy Exil" 1999.
