LOT NOTES
St. Jerome was a common subject for Creti. A closely related composition on a slightly larger sheet, with a more developed landscape and showing the saint kneeling before a crucifix, is held at the British Museum, accession no. 1946,0713.853 (click here to view online.)

CONDITION
The sheet is in overall stable age-appropriate condition. The sheet is laid down at the four corners with old tape. Some wear near the two lower corners with 5 mm tear at the lower left. Two stains to the lower left. The wove paper has stiffened somewhat from age.
