Description
Near East/Holy Land, Byzantine Empire, ca. 13th century CE. A beautiful brass cross with flaring arms that terminate in petite trefoils. Both faces of the ancient artifact are intricately incised with a lovely swirling vegetal design surrounding a central eight-petalled flower. The narrow, pointed lower terminus was intended to be inserted or attached to a processional staff. A fine example with a gorgeous patina boasting verdant hues of green! Size: 2.5" W x 4.75" H (6.4 cm x 12.1 cm)

Condition
Nicks to two trefoil points. Loss to top petal of central flower on one side. Expected abraded areas, commensurate with age. Light softening of detail in some small areas. Otherwise, excellent with lovely patina throughout.
