Description
Western Europe, Germany, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A wonderful porcelain plate with a short, concave foot. The plate features a defined rim and a flat surface. The center tondo contain a young woman with flowing garments, who holds a flower, or possibly a pomegranate, in one hand. "D. R. A" is written on the tondo above the flower. She is framed by a border of abstract foliate patterns. Blue-on white glazed pottery in Europe was inspired by increasing trade with China. A lovely example of this influence! Size: 9.75" W x 1.25" H (24.8 cm x 3.2 cm)
