Description
Southeast Asia, Burma (present day Myanmar), ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A heavy, large, solid brass triangular meditation gong, known as a kyeezee. It is thick in cross-section with a stupa-like form. A hole through the upper part allows it to be hung and played. When struck, it makes a piercing, bell-like sound. Spinning it as it hangs yields a wonderful sound. Still playable! Size: 15.95" W x 11" H (40.5 cm x 27.9 cm)
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, purchased from Butterfields, in the early 2000s
