Description
VIENNESE ENAMELED OPEN SALT, round form with silver rim and pedestal-type foot, enameled sides featuring two Classical vignettes with one likely depicting the abduction of Europa by Zeus disguised as a tame white bull, and the other with a goddess pointing at a satyr or faun, enameled interior having a landscape scene with trees. Rim and base with "A" assay hallmarks for Vienna, Austria and "LP" maker's marks probably for Ludwig Politzer, unknown metal content. Circa 1870. 1 3/8" HOA, 1 3/8" D rim.
Very good to excellent overall condition with minor wear and surface scratches, foot with very slight bend, a spot of minor gilt loss.
