Description
GERMAN METTLACH CAMEO CERAMIC STEIN, mold number 2715, featuring three cameo scenes including a couple dancing and central panel depicting a man playing a zither for a girl, having period metal lid with German inscription, 1/2 liter size. Impressed "METTLACH / VB" and "GES. GESCH." marks to base. Together with a colorless glass stein having original lid with beautiful hand-painted scene depicting a castle overlooking a river with inscribed names "Cha s A. Doremus" and "W. Carleton Williams / 18 R 72." to underside. Two pieces total. Fourth quarter 19th century. 7 3/4" HOA.
Mettlach example undamaged, except having light discoloration to interior; glass example with two minor flakes to interior rim and scattered scratches to underside from use.
