Description
This is an early marble soda fountain called "The Nautilus" made by the John Matthews Company in New York, circa late 19th century. John Matthews (1808 – 1870) was an English-born American inventor and soda water manufacturer. He is known as "The Soda Fountain King". Matthews manufactured carbonating machinery apparatus in the 1860's and 70's. Marble shows age, but no breaks or repairs, missing the internal pieces, and the lift lid, however the hinges are present. Comes in this early Wainscoting cabinet with marble top, where it appears as if the soda fountain was at one time hooked to a keg stored in the bottom cabinet. A really early piece of soda fountain history and with a great look to add to any soda fountain collector. This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made. Condition: (Good). Dimensions: Base: 34" x 41" x 21".
