Description
Franklin Townsend Morgan Oil on Canvas “Destroyers”. Signed F. Townsend Morgan. (1883-1965) Born in Brooklyn, New York. He studied at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and the Art Students League, New York City. He began printmaking in 1912 and produced prints of the Far West, New England, the Atlantic Seaboard, Florida and the West Indies. Active in the Pennsylvania art circles, Morgan worked with Joseph Pennell, further developing his style of etching. Morgan became nationally recognized for his work and received numerous awards including Philadelphia Sketch Club, Print Club of Philadelphia, Art Alliance of Philadelphia, and the Society of American Etchers. In 1936, he was included in “Prints” as one of the outstanding American print makers. For several years he was director at the Key West art center and was also artist-in-residence at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland. Works : New York Public Library, Library of Congress, Art Museums in NJ and PA, U.S. Treasury Department.
