Description
A colored lithograph of Camp Lafayette in York, PA in 1841. Philadelphia: Hoddy & Duval, 1841. 12 x 14.5 image, 16.75 x 19.5 frame. The image was probably published in the U.S. Military Magazine (Philadelphia, 1839-42), and issued here separately, with descriptive letterpress including companies and officers. The military encampment took place on York Commons August 25-27, 1841. According to the imprint, the view was “taken from Nature on the Spot” by well-known Philadelphia/German artist August Koelner (or Kollner), who had recently immigrated to the U.S.
