**First Time At Auction**
Western/Central Europe, probably England, France, or Germany, Medieval Period, ca. 8th to 14th century CE. An iron arrow bolt for a crossbow, with a socketed body and a diamond-shaped head that tapers to a pointed tip. Crossbows were incredibly advantageous weapons when used against comparatively primitive bows and arrows as they surpassed the accuracy, firing rate, and lethality of even the most well-constructed bows. A well preserved bolt that is covered with a rich russet brown patina. Size: 3" L x .5" W (7.6 cm x 1.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000

Stable fissure and chips to socket area. Some surface pitting to body. Overall form is well preserved, and presents with a nice patina and mineral deposits.
