**First Time At Auction**
North Pacific, Hawaii, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful jar, hand-carved from a gourd. The vessel displays a rounded base with a slightly concave center and impressively thin walls that swell to a spherical body and then curve inward to an annular rim over a deep basin. Boasting skillfully carved smooth walls, this unique vessel is naturally adorned in mottled hues of toffee, taupe, tan, and beige. Two lovely undulating lines of leather stitches meander down the sides of the vessel, simultaneously serving as supports for previous repairs and embellishing the jar's exterior with elegant dashes of deep brown. Size: 12" in diameter x 9.5" H (30.5 cm x 24.1 cm)

Condition
Collection label on bottom. Two stable fissures on rim. Expected surface wear with some light stains, abrasions, and char marks, commensurate with age and use. Otherwise, excellent and intact with lovely earthen deposits.
