Cheyenne / Sioux Beaded Moccasins with Buffalo Paw Design c. 1890s, 4.25" x 9.5" x 3.25" each. There is an old card stating "Cheyenne moccasins probably made before 1890 all sinew-sewn construction and beading attachment. Uppers buffalo hide and also soles, the latter indicated because of brown pigmented color. Two trailers at heel are typical of Cheyenne. These are very narrow as the Indian foot in the old days was normally narrower than the whites. The arch is lower than that of the white man. This is why Indian moccasins worn by the white man are often stashed down on each side of the instep to allow entrance of the foot. Bought in 1944 from Leo Krumholtz a Indianapolis, Minnesota dealer in old Indian collection sales. These were from a lot containing other Cheyenne items. Approx. Val $ B.W. Thayer."
