LUBA large anthropo-zoomorphic mask
This type of mask with human head surrounded by a pair of buffalo horns is quite rare among the Luba, their use and their meaning remain quite mysterious
We think immediatly about the most famous mask from Central Africa, "harvested" in 1899 by Commander Michaux, preserved in the Museum of Tervuren and illustrated in countless publications including Trésors d'Afrique (p191 ill 157 notice page 352)

The Luba are a great people in eastern DRC.
Their caryatid seats, their cup holders, chiefs' sticks, arrow holders, adzes and ancestral statues are very famous and among the most valued objects in African Art.
