Item Details
Description
(Disneyland, 1975-76) An archive of documents and correspondence related to labor disputes between Disneyland Cash Control and Admissions employees and park management. In 1976, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service interceded to broker a deal between Disneyland and its Cash Control and Admissions employees, who were represented by Hospital and Service Employees Union Local 399. This archive comes from the collection of Union Steward Richard Hitt and presents a portrait of tumultuous relations between the park and its cast members. Items include a Disneyland internal Cash Control and Admissions personnel list with dates of hire and rates of pay on Disneyland stationery, a carbon of a letter from the union naming Richard Hitt Steward for 1976, a copy of Disneyland's final employment offer to Cash Control employees per the government mediation, a copy letter from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service instructing employees to vote on accepting the offer, an Election Fact Sheet on Disneyland embossed letterhead stationery informing employees of the upcoming union certification election, a letter from the park Labor Relations Department on Disneyland embossed letterhead stationery urging Hitt to vote to leave the union, a letter from the union on Local 399 letterhead informing employees that the union was decertified and reminding them that retaliation by Disney against pro-union workers is federally prohibited, and a letter from park management on Disneyland letterhead stationery thanking employees for their votes and urging everyone to move forward as a unified group of Disney employees. The 8-pages of documents and correspondence are stapled together at the upper left corner, and the archive includes two additional copies of the packet. All measure 11"x8.5" and are in good to very good condition with some age browning, soiling, creasing, and handling.
