Item Details

Description

Title: Chinese Republic blue white ginger jar with birds

Size/Dimensions: 5” (12.7 cm) tall x 5 ½” (14 cm) diameter.

Description: Intricate hand painted design of a garden scene with two birds mirrored in the painting. Nice small details with good line quality.

Round hand thrown porcelain ginger jar with small mouth lip, and decorated with two birds standing on rocks facing each other. Surrounding the birds are peonies, and pomegranates. A tree spreads its branches over the birds. The back is painted with two butterflies. A floral band decorates the collar under the mouth.

A nice dark cobalt, which varies in depth to give contrast, is used for the decoration. The foot ring is unglazed but the base is glazed. The interior and exterior is glazed with a thick ivory-colored glaze which has a nice thick, smooth, polished feel. The glaze is well-controlled, stopping above the foot. You can see lines of the potter’s wheel under the glaze.

The base has the word CHINA painted in cobalt blue.

MEASUREMENTS

5” (12.7 cm) tall x 5 ½” (14 cm) diameter. Weighs 1 lb 4.4 oz (580 g)

CONDITION

The jar has no breaks, cracks, or chips. There is slight wear to the surface. There are pin holes and dark spots in the glaze from firing. There is a light blue line by the butterflies which was probably a mistake.

A nice Blue and white jar to add to your collection with an intricate delicate and extensive painting.
