Description
For your consideration is magnificent large scale abstract acrylic painting on canvas signed "Hyde Soloman '71" (61x61). Hyde Solomon was born in 1911, in New York. He was an abstract painter, and studied at the Art Students League and Pratt Institute. Solomon was an artist-in-residence for four years at Princeton University. He helped found the Jane Street Gallery, an artists' cooperative in Greenwich Village. Over a seven year run, the gallery provided a place for young, burgeoning artists to showcase their work. The group started with a focus on abstraction, and over the years, many of the members began to seek a compromise between abstraction and representation. Other artists in the collective include Nell Blaine, Ida Fischer, and Larry Rivers, who had his first one-man show at the Jane Street Gallery in 1949. From the collection of the Kresge Foundation, a philanthropic foundation for the arts that was established in Detroit in 1924. (Catalog #114)
