Description
George Tice, Peekamoose Portfolio, 1972 (New York: Witkin-Berley). 12 orginal gelatin silver prints 5 3/4 x 4 1/2 inches or the reverse, each print drymounted to a 14 x 11 inch mount, each mount carries the artist's blindstamp. Prints are loosley housed in a cloth-bound folder which measures 14 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches. The portfolio is signed and editioned in ink on the title page. This portfolio is edition number 9/50. Includes brief introduction by James L. Enyeart.

In excellent condition, less minor age wear to portfolio covers (see images).

Portfolio contains black and white landscape images of the Catskill region of New York State; prints materfully printed by the artist.

Biography:

George Tice, born in Newark, NJ, is a photographer whose career spans more than 50 years. Tice began taking photographs at the age of 14, when he joined a camera club, and is primarily self-taught. He is best known for his thoughtful, poignant shots of everyday objects and scenes, especially those featuring his home state of New Jersey, and for the high quality of his black-and-white prints. In 1959, when Tice was only 20 years old, Edward Steichen, then the Director of Photography at New York’s Museum of Modern Art), selected one of his works for the Museum. Tice’s well-known series include Urban Landscapes (1975) and Paterson (1972), which document street scenes, shops, movie theaters, and homes around New Jersey. His work has been exhibited in the United States and around the world, including a 1972 solo exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, NY. Tice is the author of 16 books and the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He has taught since 1977 at the Maine Photographic Workshops, and currently lives in Middletown, NJ.
